This Common Law Order Book 1 begins April term 1809 with the appointment of Jas D. Carrell as Clerk of Court Russell Co. (two pages at the end of the book are from 1808); excepting the 1808 entry, this book ends at court 1824 with the debt case of Alderson & Creigh, merchants against Gents & Hicks.  This book is composed primarily of cases, some tried by juries (transcribed) for a plethora of reasons such as malicious prosecution, retailing ardent spirits without license, in trover, slaves suing for freedom, assault, assault & battery, obstructions, slander, dereliction of duty, appeals, in case, failure to attend jury (venire); barn burning, breach of peach, buggery ad inf.  Not infrequently the plaintiff or defendant has died since implementation of suit (giving an estimated window of death); some indentures are listed as submitted to court and admitted to record as well as a rare last will and testament.
