The Personal Property Tax Lists for the Year 1787 for Monongalia County, Virginia [now West Virginia]

The 1787 tax list is unique and a better substitute for the 1790 census of Virginia. It is the result of a law passed by the Virginia Assembly which mandated that the tax commissioner visit the residence of the taxpayer.
