1830 Logan County, [West] Virginia Census

$400

Logan County was formed in 1824.  It was the policy at that time to create a new county as soon as enough people lived within an area to support one.  In 1830 the territory which was included in Logan County was sparsely settled.  The area of the county was vast.  It was difficult to get to the courthouse from the outlying areas, but there were not enough people to afford to build one closer to them.  As settlers continued to move in, however, there were soon enough landowners in various sections to do this.

The census in this book is alphabetical by Male surnames with number of males by age, females by age and number of slaves.
