No. 53 of Acts of Alabama decreed that in 1833, a census was to be taken of each county in Alabama using the following for: White males under 21; white males over 21; white females under 21; white females over 21; Total amount of whites; Total number of slaves; Total amount of free people of Color; Total amount of inhabitants. This Census is printed in the order of enumeration with a complete alphabetical index at the end. In 1833, Barbour county had 6,280 white persons and total inhabitants of 9,283 persons.
