The Mississippi Territory was created in 1798 and shortly thereafter Adams County was created 2 April 1799. It lies in the Southwestern corner of the state boarding Louisiana and Florida, and is referred to as the Natchez District. It is the parent county for Amite, Franklin, and Wilkinson.
