This book is a collection of family histories primarily in East Tennessee which the author compiled and wrote for the Chattanooga Times Sunday Magazine from December 3, 1933 to March 21, 1937. These family histories are quite detailed with many notations going back to the early to mid 1700's with many instances going back across the Atlantic Ocean. One can expect to find families going back 5-6 generations listing such things as: marriages, deaths, births, names of inlaws, occupations, land owned, Revolutionary War service, War of 1812 service, Civil War service, Indian skirmishes, residence and former residences, contributions to the community, education, church affiliations.

Not only is this basically a Biographical Sketch book on persons from Eastern Tennessee but, the author has also included several other items of genealogical value such as: Tax Lists for the counties of Grainger-1805, Jefferson-1800, and Rhea-1808,along with church minutes from McMinn & Rhea Counties, Revolutionary pensioners & soldiers in the War of 1812 for Franklin county, 1805 Taxable Polls for Grainger County, Revolutionary Soldiers of McMinn County, Revolutionary Graves in Tennessee, Court Minutes of Rhea County 1821, SOME Jefferson County Baptisms-Births-Marriages-Deaths form church minutes 1818-1822, Warrants & Claims of land from persons living in Tennessee who served in the War of 1812 including the Creek War, a list of applications of widows & orphans for the War of 1812 pensions, and many, many other useful items of genealogical interest for the East Tennessee researcher.
