Cabell County, West Virginia was formed in 1809 from Kanawha County, in an area that then was part of Virginia. It sits on the western side of the state bordering Ohio and Kentucky. It sits only a few miles south of the one of the main migration routes of the 19th century of persons headed West in search of land.
