Prior to 1772, York County, South Carolina was included in the North Carolina counties of Anson, Mecklenburg, and Tryon. After the border survey of 1772, it was included in the area known as the New Acquisition. York County, South Carolina was formed in 1786 as a county within Camden District.
The York County deed index includes only the land conveyances, but there are conveyances of personal property which are difficult to locate without these abstracts.
