Census Records

(703 products)

Federal census records were taken every ten years beginning in 1790, and Heritage Books carries published indexes, abstracts, and transcriptions of census records from across the United States. Early census records (1790–1840) list only the head of household with tick-mark tallies of other household members; from 1850 onward, every person is named. The collection includes special census schedules — agricultural, manufacturing, mortality, and the 1890 Veterans Schedule — alongside state census records and territorial censuses. Many titles provide name indexes to records that are otherwise difficult to search.
