Tennessee: Claiborne County
Claiborne County, located in upper east Tennessee along the Kentucky border, was created on October 29, 1801 from portions of Grainger and Hawkins counties. This county was named for a Virginia tidewater aristocrat William C. C. Claiborne, one of the first judges of the Tennessee Superior Court and one of the first representatives from Tennessee to the United States Congress.
