Located in west Tennessee, Crockett County was created in 1871 out of Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, and Madison Counties and named for David Crockett, frontiersman, explorer and state representative as well as United State Senator from Tennessee. The county seat is Alamo. The early settlers came into this area as early as 1824 and many of their descendants are still in the area. These marriage records show a change in the way Tennessee collected their records with the addition of bondsmen and the county court clerk's names to the records. In addition to the names of the bride and groom with the official. The date the license was issued and the date of the wedding are both given when recorded. Included in these records are both white and black marriages.
