Henry C. Peden, Jr. is a Vietnam veteran, retired administrator with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and former research director with Family Line Publications. He is an award-winning author who has written over 170 books and is recognized in the mid-Atlantic region for his genealogical expertise. He is past president and Fellow of both the Maryland Genealogical Society and The Historical Society of Harford County. Several years ago the society presented him the prestigious Archer Fellow Award for his many historical contributions over many years. For his dedicated writing efforts spanning several decades, Mr. Peden was awarded the 2009 Preservationist Honor Award by the Harford County Historic Preservation Commission. In 2011 he and co-author Jack Shagena received another preservation award from the county for their Harford County's Rural Heritage series. He served as President of The Historical Society of Harford County in 2012 and 2013 and President of STARRS, Inc. (Save The Aberdeen Railroad Station, Inc.) from 2013 to 2016 during which time he was instrumental in preserving the society's headquarters building (the old Bel Air Post Office) and saving the historic B&O Station in Aberdeen. In 2017 the library of the Historical Society of Harford County was named The Henry C. Peden, Jr. Research Library in his honor.
