Tennessee: Lincoln County

Lincoln County is located in middle Tennessee on land that was ceded to the United States in 1806 by the Cherokee and Chickasaws. There were land speculators and surveyors in the area as early as 1784 when the Federal government was giving Military Service Warrants for the men in the American Revolution. It was created in 1809 and named for Benjamin Lincoln, a Revolutionary War Veteran, U. S. Secretary of War and a Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.
